The BC-65, also known as the BC-12-65, was a higher
powered version of the Taylor-Young Model BC. Production was halted in
1941 to allow the introduction of the tandem two seat Taylorcraft DC-65
which led to the Taylorcraft L-2 Grasshopper for the US Army. The BF-65
was powered by a 65hp Franklin and the BL-65 by a 65hp Lycoming.
Production of the BC-65 recommenced in 1945 and it was redesignated
BC-12D Twosome (4191 built). The BC-12D-85 Sportsman (41 built) was
powered by an 85hp(63kW) Continental and the similar BC-12D-4-85
featured extra rear side windows. The company went bankrupt in 1946
after a major fire at the factory. In 1949 the company was restarted as
Taylorcraft Inc. of Pennsylvania. Large numbers of the BC-12 series
remain airworthy including around 1500 Model BC-12D’s. A Taylorcraft
