Taylorcraft  BC-65

The BC-65, also known as the BC-12-65, was a higher powered version of the Taylor-Young Model BC. Production was halted in 1941 to allow the introduction of the tandem two seat Taylorcraft DC-65 which led to the Taylorcraft L-2 Grasshopper for the US Army. The BF-65 was powered by a 65hp Franklin and the BL-65 by a 65hp Lycoming. Production of the BC-65 recommenced in 1945 and it was redesignated BC-12D Twosome (4191 built). The BC-12D-85 Sportsman (41 built) was powered by an 85hp(63kW) Continental and the similar BC-12D-4-85 featured extra rear side windows. The company went bankrupt in 1946 after a major fire at the factory. In 1949 the company was restarted as Taylorcraft Inc. of Pennsylvania. Large numbers of the BC-12 series remain airworthy including around 1500 Model BC-12D’s. A Taylorcraft BC-12D Twosome is illustrated below.
