The Tierra 1 is among the oldest ultralights in
continuous production. Now generally known as the T-Bird and
manufactured by Golden Circle Air Inc. of Iowa the design was originally
marketed by Motorized Gliders of Iowa and subsequently Teratorn Aircraft
Inc. also of Iowa. An extremely simple high wing strut-braced monoplane
it has proven to be an extremely popular and durable design. Variants
include the Sierra 11 or T-Bird 11 side-by-side two seater powered by a
65hp (48kW) Rotax 582 and with a maximum take-off weight of 1000lb
(453kg). The T-Bird 111 has three seats, is powered by a 65hp Rotax 582
and has a maximum take-off weight of 1200lb (544kg). A T-Bird 11 is
illustrated below.
