The Travel Air Manufacturing Company was founded in
1924 at Wichita, Kansas. Among the founders were Walter Beech, Clyde
Cessna and Lloyd Stearman, men who would go on to start their own
equally famous aviation companies. The company’s first design was the
Model 1000 which first flew in 1925 powered by a 90hp Curtiss. The Model
2000 was basically the same with a number of minor improvements. More
than 40 Model 2000’s have survived and a fair number are active.
