The U.12 Flamingo was the last design of Udet
Flugzeugbau which was founded in 1922 by Ernst Udet the well known World
War 1 fighter pilot. It made its first flight in 1926 powered by a
96hp(71kW) Siemens Halske sH 11. At least 200 examples were built by
Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG which had succeeded the Udet company in
1926. Bayerische in turn eventually became Messerschmitt. The Flamingo
trainers were operated by Germany, Hungary and Austria. One replica is
known to have been built.
