Vickers-Supermarine Seafire XV11

The Seafire XV11 was similar to the Seafire XV (384 built) which itself was based on the Seafire 111 airframe with the installation of a Griffon engine. The Seafire series began with the Mk.1B (166 built), first flown in 1942, which was a navalised version of the Spitfire VB with arrester hook and rear fuselage strengthening. The Seafire 11C (372 built) had a strengthened undercarriage and the Seafire 111 (1263 built) featured double-folding wings. The Seafire XV11 featured a cut down rear fuselage and tear drop canopy. Seafires saw action in many campaigns throughout World War 11 including the D-Day landings. At least two examples of the Mk.XV11 remain airworthy in civil markings.
