By the late 1920’s Waco was the largest manufacturer
of aircraft in the United States, most of the aircraft being
developments of the Model 10. The three letter identification system for
the Waco models was introduced in 1930 and consisted of the first letter
denoting the engine type, eg R was the 110hp(82kW) to 125hp(93kW)
Warner; the second letter denoting the basic airframe type, eg N was for
open cockpit models from 1930 to 1931; and the third letter denoting the
series, eg F was tandem cockpit, two and three seat models from 1930.
The Model INF was powered by a 125hp(93kW) Kinner and the Model KNF by a
100hp(75kW) Kinner. The RNF was a popular two seater used as a tourer
and trainer. About 40 have survived along with 9 Model INF’s and a
number of these remain airworthy.
