The Waco RE series was the last of the cabin Wacos.
It was available in a number of versions including the Model ARE (4
built) powered by a 300hp(223kW) Jacobs and with a maximum take-off
weight of 4000lb(1816kg), and the Model HRE (4 built) powered by a
285hp(212kW) Lycoming. Four examples of the SRE and one each of the ARE
and HRE are extant. During World War 11 the USAAF impressed 44 cabin
Wacos for communications duties and many of these are among the 140
survivors of around 877 cabin Wacos that were built. Waco attempted to
re-enter the light aircraft market after the war but in 1946 decided to
end all aircraft production. A Model ARE is illustrated below.
