The Wasp HAS.1 was the Naval development of the Scout
AH.1. The Wasp differed from the Scout mainly in its undercarriage which
consisted of four swiveling legs whereas the Scout had a skid
undercarriage. The Royal Navy acquired 125 examples and the first of
those entered operational service in 1963. The type also served with the
navies of Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand and
South Africa. Several are now operated in civil markings.
