Wittman W-8 Tailwind

Designed by Steve Wittman, who had been a racing pilot since 1926 and who was a prolific designer and builder of racing and touring aircraft, the Wittman W-8 has become one of the classics of the homebuilding world. A Model W-9 was first flown in 1958 powered by a 160hp(119kW) Lycoming, with a wingspan of 20’0"(6.09m) and a maximum take-off weight of 1450lb(658kg). Most examples have been built with a tailwheel undercarriage but some have a tricycle undercarriage and others have been built with retractable mainwheels.
