The Yak-55M was a modified version of the Yak-55 (108 built) which had first flown in 1980. Production of the Yak-55 had begun in 1986 and continued until the Yak-55M displaced it on the production line in 1990. The Yak-55M featured a tapered wing of reduced span and slightly rounded wingtips. Production ended in 1994.
