Zenair Ltd. was founded in 1974 by Christophe Heintz
to design and manufacture light aircraft and provide kits to
homebuilders of many of the designs. Mr. Heintz was formerly chief
engineer with Avions Robin and stress engineer with de Havilland Canada.
During his employment with both these companies he had designed aircraft
which were suitable for the homebuilder. In 1992 the Zenith Aircraft
Company was formed in Missouri, USA to market and manufacture Zenair
aircraft in the United States and subsequently acquired all rights to
the Zenair line. The CH 100 was a single seat version of the Zenair CH
200. An even smaller version was the CH 50 Mini Z which first flew in
1979 powered by a 24hp(18kW) Cuyuna and with a maximum take-off weight
of 555lb(252kg). It is believed that no production of kits for the CH-50
took place and development of this type ended in 1981.
