The AW139 was originally
a project by Agusta and Bell and known as the AB139. Bell withdrew from
the programme in 2005 and was replaced by Westland. It has both civil
and military applications such as search and rescue, transport,
firefighting and emergency medical services. It can be fitted with
rocket launchers, air-to-air missiles and gunpods. The example shown
below is operated by the Irish Air Corps.
