The Canadair CF-5A was an
improved version of the Northrop F-5A which had first flown in 1959. The
CF-5A was built by Canadair for the Canadian Armed Forces and
improvements included a more powerful engine and upgraded navigational
systems. The CF-5D was the two seat version developed from the
Northrop F-5D. Canada operated 240 CF-5A and CF-5D aircraft from 1968
until they were retired in 1995. Canadair also built 150 examples for
the Royal Dutch Air Force as the NF-5. 25 ex-Dutch aircraft were
subsequently operated by the Royal Norwegian Air Force and 18
ex-Canadian CF-5A's were operated by the Venezuelan Air Force. A
