The CC-138 Twin otter is
a military version of the DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 100. The Canadian
Armed Forces operate 4 examples out of Yellowknife, NWT. The CC-138
entered service in 1970 and is used in the transport and search and
rescue roles.. The US Army National Guard operated 6 examples of the
Series 300 as the UV-18A. The similar UV-18B (3 built) was operated by
the US Air Force Academy. Other military operators have been Argentina,
Australia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Malaysia, Panama, Paraguay
and Peru among others. Production of the Twin Otter ended in 1988 when
844 of all versions had been built. In 2007 Viking Air Ltd. of Sydney,
B.C. announced that they would re-start production of a more powerful
version designated Twin Otter Srs.400. A CC-138 is illustrated below.
