The Comet 4C was the
final production version of the extensive Comet series which began with
the Comet 1, the prototype of which had made its first flight in 1949.
The C.4 was the military version of the 4C. 27 Comet 4, 18 Comet 4B and
29 Comet 4C's were built. Five Comet C.4's were operated by 216 Squadron
RAF between 1956 and 1975. The example illustrated below, XR395, was
delivered on 1.6.62. It became a Comet 4C as G-BDIT on
1.9.75. It was cancelled on 20.4.82 and broken up at Blackbushe
in July 1984.
