The EMB-312 was designed
as an advanced turboprop trainer for the Brazilian Air Force where it is
designated T-27. It is an extremely successful design with examples
having been sold to Argentina (30), Colombia (14), the Dominican
Republic (10), Honduras (12), Paraguay (8), Peru (30) and Venezuela
(31).It is also operated by France who purchased 80 examples. The
aircraft is ideally suited to the training role with its exceptional
manoeuvrability and ability to operate from unprepared runways. The
version used by the RAF was built by Shorts and is described separately.
Embraer built 10 examples for Egypt and a further 124 were built under
licence by Helwan. A T-27 of the Brazilian Air Force is illustrated
below.
