The C-17A Globemaster 111
is a strategic military transport in service with the USAF since January
1995. It has the ability to operate from short airstrips. Currently 168
are in service with the USAF, 6 with the RAF, 4 with the RAAF and 4 have
been ordered by the Canadian Armed Forces. NATO issued a Letter of
Intent for 17 examples in 2007 to be part of a NATO strategic airlift
capability.
