The T-45A Goshawk is an
advanced trainer operated by the US Navy. It was designed as a
replacement for the North American T-2C Buckeye and the Douglas TA-4J
Skyhawk 11. It was developed from the B.Ae. Hawk T.1 which was in
service with the RAF. The Hawk was extensively modified for shipboard
operations and included a strengthened airframe, wider landing gear and
an arrestor hook. It became operational in 1991. Work commenced on
upgrading the T-45A to T-45C standard in 1997. The upgrades include the
installation of inertial navigation and a glass cockpit.
