The Fregate was developed from the Nord 262B(4 built
for operations by Air Inter) and the earlier
Nord 262A(73 built) which in turn had been developed from the Max-Holste
260 Super Broussard which first flew in 1960. Aerospatiale was formed in
1970 with the merger of Nord Aviation and Sud Aviation. Of the 33
Fregates built, 24 were the Model D for use by the French Air Force.
The Nord 262E was a conversion of existing Nord 262A's with more
powerful engines for the French Navy. Frakes Aviation converted 9 Nord 262’s to Frakes 298 Mohawk standard
from 1975. These aircraft were powered by 2x 1180shp(880kW) Pratt &
Whitneys. A small number of Fregates were in service until quite
