The T-6A Texan 11 was the winning design for the
JPATS (Joint Primary Aircraft Training System) which required a new
trainer to replace the existing T-37B and T-34C trainers with the US Air
Force and the US Navy. Raytheon was awarded the contract in 1996 and the
first delivery to the USAF took place in 2000. Apart from the US
military orders 45 have been delivered to Greece and 24 to the NATO
Flying School in Canada. The Texan 11 is essentially a more powerful
version of the Pilatus PC-9 which was first flown in 1984. The aircraft
illustrated is a prototype and remains registered to Raytheon.
